My Life as a Digital Nomad

Sky

I am writing this on a sunny Tuesday morning, my eyes are gazing at the Mediterranean sea, and my heart feels so much right now. I find gratitude in the simple miracles of life. It is my first blog this I am writing this way. I am a bit nervous – sitting restless, trying to find the right words, and I am grateful to be able to connect with you through this article. I do not take this for granted.
I may not know you, I may never meet you in person, but I thank you for being with me in this extraordinary time on this planet.

My head feels empty, but I would like to share a bit about myself and my personal journey. My journey as a digital nomad.

As we all see and notice, today’s world going through a vast shift. On both the human and technological side. Already back in 2016 I noticed the urge for a change deep within me.
For a long time, the mere thought of a life as a digital nomad was not even in the realm of possibility. I was too entrenched in family structures and responsibilities. Nevertheless I was always looking for work models that would give me more freedom in terms of time and more flexibility. This led me to self-employment as a shiatsu therapist. It did not take long to actually realize, that being self-employed did not open the sphere to become time and financially free. Still the idea of earning money from a laptop while exploring the world seemed absolutely unthinkable for me and my life circumstances at the time. At the same time, however, it were the same circumstances of my life that made the door visible and lured me in. Ultimately, it was a combination of smaller and larger impulses that led to this big change – and hey, who would have thought that I would be carrying my home in my carry on luggage?

Changes: How do you feel about changes? It is not uncommon that these are accompanied by uncertainty and doubt. I know these states too well and I thank my partner Henrik for always supporting me in these situations. Our conversations, our special partnership and, of course, our shared experiences have immensely strengthened our desire to master this path together. Even though life will never be straightforward, I have now learned to simply accept change, face it and grow with it. That is life! We are here to learn and grow. It is the numerous encounters and experiences that allow us to learn a lot about ourselves, life and the world.

The awareness of being able to work from anywhere and at any time has given me a whole new freedom and a whole new world of thought. Freedom of thought! Creativity and the view on life has expanded immensely.

But life as a digital nomad is not just a never-ending adventure. It’s also a lesson in discipline, organization, and self-motivation-especially when I have to convince myself that the pool at the beach is not my office, no matter how tempting that sounds. It requires the ability to live a balanced lifestyle and to balance work and rest. But all the challenges are worth it when you consider how much you gain.

One of the most rewarding aspects of this lifestyle is meeting other people. As I travel, I meet interesting people from all different cultures and walks of life. Their stories and perspectives broaden my horizons and allow me to see the world with new eyes.

All the encounters, experiences and adventures create a whole new perspective on life. As a digital nomad, I have learned that life has no fixed boundaries and that there is so much more to discover than we ever imagined. For that I am eternally grateful.
